Since the stroke risks at 12 are so low anyway, no statistically valid comparison can be made. At low ages there is also no sex difference. Diabetics are however at inccresed risk of vascular complications, male risk is greater than female.

Diabetics are at more of a risk of strokes if the diabetes isn't controlled, but even if it is controlled there is still more of a risk than there would be with someone without diabetes. Males would have a higher risk than females At 12 there wouldn't be much of a risk of stroke, it'd increase as age increases, particularly if the diabetes is uncontrolled. Stroke isn't the only thing diabetics are at risk for. There's retinopathy (which can lead to blindness), nephropathy (which can lead to kidney failure), neuropathy (which leads to nerve damage, loss of feeling in the limbs which makes it more likely that you might hurt your foot, for example, not realise it and if it gets infected you don't know so the foot has to be amputated) and heart disease. Beautiful disease, but all these can be avoided by keeping blood sugar levels controlled. Hope I helped and that the 12 year old in question is OK :)
