I have read that *most* type 1 diabetics, ON AVERAGE, die before age 50. Note: if they can TIGHTLY CONTROL their blood sugars, they can live a very long life.

The generalized statement is that Type 1 Diabetes takes 10-15 years off your "average " life span. With average lifespan for Americans bing in the 70's that give the Type 1 Diabetics about 60-65 years --IF they take good care of themselves.

I wouldn't want to know that, it's too scary. My aunt has Type 1 diabetes since she was about 24 years old. She has taken very good care of herself and she is now 56 years old, but she has had many complications, she is very close to lose her eyesight, she can barely see and her iris turned white, I don't know why. But she is still a happy person, she got used to all that suffering and she enjoys every day like if it was the last one. She is a very active woman and I have never seen her depressed. I have Type II (recently diagnosed) and I am 32 years old, I am very scared because I don't have the will power that my aunt has and I get depressed very easy, I wish I was like her. Sorry if I didn't answer your question, but I just wanted to give you an example.
